Pay for Performance (P4P)

We have certain Ministry/Health Authority-set targets that are used to measure how effectively and efficiently we are moving our patients and residents through the system, from admittance to community transition.

When we do this work well and meet these targets, we positively impact patient care, our work environment, and the organization’s financial health.

These incentivized targets are called "P4P" or "Pay for Performance."

See the P4P-related Flow Facts

When we talk about "Pay for Performance" or "P4P" in connection to our flow work, we are focused on three main quality areas:

  • Ensuring an admitted patient doesn't wait in our ED for longer than 10 hours (“10-hr rule”).
  • Ensuring wherever possible, our acute-care patients are moving to an appropriate level of care within 30 days (LLOS).
  • Ensuring responsible use of our unfunded beds by operating at or below our funded number of beds (census).

We've been working with Decision Support to create a dashboard where you can see the status of these, and other, indicators in one central location.

The link is below -- to populate your specific report, select "Flow" in the dropdown box and then click "View Report" on the right-side of the screen.
