Patient Transfer and Transports
Much work is being done at a provincial, regional, and local level to look at patient repatriation, including:
- standardizing the Patient Transport Network (PTN) process;
- ensuring ongoing availability of tertiary resources;
- improving communication between organizations and reduce risks associated with transfer of patient care;
- improve patient experience by ensuring that they return to their home community as soon as possible.
The Provincial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is the framework for all of the above. See the related Flow Fact.
The BC Patient Transfer Network is responsible for the planning and coordination of all inter-facility patient transfers.
The BC Patient Transfer Network (BCPTN) replaces BC Bedline as a new provincial service that includes clinical oversight 24/7, improved coordination for inter-facility transfers and better communication between sending/receiving sites ensuring patients throughout B.C. receive appropriate care at the appropriate facility in a more timely and efficient way.
