Slate Smoothing

We know that consistent workload patterns are key to managing resources efficiently. 

Surgery is currently looking at how they may be able to smooth the OR slates by standardizing OR start and stop times, as well as standardizing the daily inpatient bed requirements. 

Currently we may require five beds one day, and 15 the next. 

There is no correlation between the length of stay for a surgical procedure and the demand for staffing and bed resources for new cases.
