Performance Management

Providence Health Care’s performance management system, Performance Excellence, provides non-contract staff and leaders online access to the tools and training videos necessary to learn about and navigate through the Performance Excellence system.

Evaluating Unionized (Contract) Staff

The performance of unionized employees is evaluated once every two years.  Feedback may be delivered to an employee from his/her manager or by an employee to his/her manager at any time during a performance evaluation cycle.  View the Performance Evaluations for Contract Staff video for more information about the process.

Bi-Annual performance evaluations are documented in the Performance Excellence Tool by the employee’s manager and can be printed at the request of the employee.  Additional forms may be used to document performance based on individual union contracts or department norms.

Evaluating Excluded (Non-Contract) Staff

The performance of excluded employees is evaluated regularly  beginning with an annual goal setting conversation to determine strategic/operational and professional development goals for the year and followed by a series of frequent conversations (approximately every two months) between the employee and his/her manager to discuss progress towards those goals.  Feedback may be delivered to an employee from his/her manager or by an employee to his/her manager at any time during a performance evaluation cycle. Outcomes of the conversations are documented by the employee in the Performance Excellence Tool and commented on by the employee’s manager.
